Graf hip sonography is a proven and painless method for the early detection of hip dysplasia in infants. This examination is carried out in the first few weeks of life and helps to detect and treat hip joint defects at an early stage.
Why is hip sonography important?
The hip ultrasound examination is a legally recommended preventive examination (U3) and serves to diagnose a possible malposition of the hip joints at an early stage. Untreated hip dysplasia can cause long-term discomfort and restricted mobility.
The examination according to Graf
The procedure developed by Prof. Dr. Reinhard Graf is the international standard for assessing hip development in newborns. We use high-resolution ultrasound to measure the angle of the acetabulum and classify the hip according to a standardized scheme.
Treatment options
If a misalignment is detected, it can be treated gently and effectively in most cases. These include:
- Spreader pants or splints to support hip maturation
- Regular checks to monitor development
- In rare cases, further orthopaedic measures
