Ergometry, also known as exercise ECG, is an important diagnostic procedure to assess the performance of your cardiovascular system under physical stress. We measure the reaction of your heart, blood pressure and breathing rate while you are active on a bicycle ergometer or treadmill.
When is ergometry useful?
Ergometry can be useful in various situations, including
- To clarify chest pain or shortness of breath during exercise
- To check the success of therapy for cardiovascular diseases
- In case of suspected circulatory disorders of the heart
- To assess resilience before operations
- As part of sports medical examinations
This is how the examination works
At the beginning of the ergometry, we will record your resting values in order to have a starting point. We will then gradually increase the load while continuously monitoring your ECG and blood pressure. The aim is to stress your heart under controlled conditions in order to obtain meaningful results.
The examination usually takes 15 to 30 minutes and is carefully monitored by our medical team to ensure your safety.
Preparation for ergometry
To ensure that the results are as meaningful as possible, you should observe the following instructions:
- Wear comfortable clothing and sturdy shoes.
- Refrain from eating large meals at least two hours before the examination.
- Tell us about any medication you are taking.
