Children’s bones and joints do not always grow evenly. Misalignments or imbalances can cause long-term discomfort or restricted movement. Growth-guiding operations, such as arthrorisis, are modern, gentle procedures to specifically influence natural growth and gently correct misalignments.
When are growth-guiding operations useful?
- These procedures are mainly used for childhood deformities of the legs or joints, including:
- X- or O-legs
- Bony growth disorders
- Joint instabilities, e.g. ankle joint misalignments
- Congenital or acquired axial deviations
How does growth-guiding surgery work?
The procedure uses the child’s natural growth to gently guide the bones into the correct position. Small implants or plates are used to inhibit or promote growth. Once the desired correction has been achieved, the implant can be removed again.
