Bariatric treatment aims to achieve sustainable weight reduction and improvement in quality of life.
Bariatric treatment is a specialized medical therapy for people who are severely overweight (obese), especially when other measures such as dieting, exercise or medication have not produced the desired results.
Non-surgical therapeutic approaches
- Dietary changes: Nutritional advice and training help to develop a sustainable and healthy lifestyle.
- Exercise therapy: Physiotherapeutic measures and targeted exercise concepts promote calorie consumption and strengthen the body.
- Behavioral therapy: Psychological support helps to reflect on and change eating habits.
Surgical measures (bariatric surgery)
If conservative approaches are not sufficient, surgical interventions may be considered. These include:
- Gastric band: An adjustable band is placed around the upper part of the stomach to induce the feeling of fullness more quickly.
- Gastric sleeve: A large part of the stomach is removed, limiting food intake.
- Gastric bypass: The stomach is reduced in size and part of the small intestine is bypassed in order to reduce calorie intake.
